about

Available for sale on thereishoperecords.com/track/empty-hands in aid of the Homeless via the Simon Comuinity and the Big Issue foundation, Empty hands is the story of one of the invisible many who are on our streets and we don't notice. It's a crying shame that in this day and age we have so many homeless who are there through no fault of their own. This song is designed to make you think before you dismiss a man or woman selling the big issue. This is a living and a good way for them to have a step up. Don't just hurry past, they might supprise you. "There by the grace of God go I"

lyrics

The wind was blowing strong and the rain was tumbling down

And I saw her in the corner of my eye

She was sitting in an opening tryin' to hide out from the rain

The big issue getting sodden as the people hurried by

Every frown was greeted with a gentle loving smile

and nobody seemed to notice all the tears she hid inside

Her magazines were held as tightly as a baby in her arms

but the people pushed on by and missed the crys inside her eye

And I looked at those Empty hands

and looked at her tearful eyes

And No one realised the pain inside

She's part of the hidden few

who nobody looks on to

Too busy to stop and lend a hand

To the woman holding out her empty hand

Through a cold and bitter winter when the heating bills were high

And the days were getting colder by the hour

I saw this same old woman with a pile of magazines

and an empty cup that someone had thrown out the day before

And still we were too busy to reach out and lend a hand

Rushing on to get our feet up in the warm

But every day was greeted with the same old loving smile

And as the people hurried by I got to talk with her a while

And I looked at those Empty hands

and looked at her tearful eyes

And No one realised the pain inside

She's part of the hidden few

who nobody looks on to

Too busy to stop and lend a hand

To the woman holding out her empty hand

Bridge

And one day she disapeared like rain upon the wind

and no one cared to notice what had happened to the sun

Like a spirit in the shadows she had vanished in the rain

And though I wondered of her pain I never heard from her again

And I looked at those Empty hands

and looked at her tearful eyes

And No one realised the pain inside

She's part of the hidden few

who nobody looks on to

Too busy to stop and lend a hand

To the woman holding out her empty hand
